Is Cauliflower Good for babies?
Cauliflower is a type of vegetable that has created a big perception among all the human beings that it can create gas in your stomach. Most of the upper age persons don’t eat it in the night time as they don’t consider it to be digestible for dinner.
Note: If you don’t’ want to read all the necessary information about cauliflower, then skip the process and read the baby food recipes of cauliflower that I mentioned in the second part below.
If we think about it more deeply, so they are right at their place, but despite the fact, there are pros and cons of each and everything available in this world. If we talk about our babies, so the cauliflower is considered to be good for introducing into your baby’s life at the age of 6 months.
There are many parents who don’t feed their children cauliflower in the 1st year of their babies birth but on the other hand, others also do feed it to the babies. In fact, cauliflower has a good amount of protein and vitamins that help the baby in promoting Bone development, Immunity, and digestion. Besides that, your baby will surely love this vegetable as it has very good taste.
One of the famous website mentioned in their blog post that feeding six servings of vegetables and fruits are recommended for your baby when they reach 1 year old. The vegetables and fruits mentioned on that blog post also mentioned cauliflower in the list as well.
Note: The feeding ratio of cauliflower in babies varied with 50/50 %, and it’s good if you consult your local doctors once before considering it to feed your own baby.
What is the best time to introduce Cauliflower to your baby?
As I mentioned earlier, the feeding ratio is equal among the parents to 50%, and you need to give your baby cauliflower only after consulting it from your local or family doctor. But, as per my research, the ideal time to feed your baby cauliflower initially starts with 6 months of age.
After six months, your baby stomach has naturally been able to digest solid food, and this is the time you can introduce your baby cauliflower.
Note: Six months of age that I mentioned above is not the ideal age for every baby so, it’s better to first consult your doctor and take a decision upon their consideration.
How can I select cauliflower for my baby?
There are many of you who might think about using canned cauliflower, and in the same time, it also creates a third thought in your mind that whether it is good for your children health or not.
In General, the best thing that you need to follow is to bring a cauliflower that should be wrapped in its green leaves. There is no need to worry about cauliflower sizes as it wouldn’t change the taste, but the more it would be beneficial for your children when you buy it fresh.
How to store Cauliflower for a long time?
In this part, I am not mentioning about the cauliflower puree, but to let you know that how you can store a raw cauliflower in your fridge for a long time. First of all, you need to put cauliflower in a plastic bag and put it inside the refrigerator. The stem portion is ideal for the cauliflower to store as it will allow the vegetable to keep moisture.
So, the starting part was written by me just to let you know about the pros and cons of cauliflower, and I might also think that this information will really help your family and friends too when you share with them. Without any further delay lets deep into the recipes.
Homemade Baby Food Recipes With Cauliflower
1. Cauliflower and Rice Recipe for Babies
- Cauliflower ½ cup.
- Cooked rice ½ cup.
- Carrot 1/2 medium size
- Potato 1/2 medium size.
- Clarified Butter (Ghee) 1 tablespoon
- Onion 1 tablespoon finely chopped.
- Cumin Seeds.
First of all, take a pressure cooker and add 1 tablespoon of purified butter in it and leave it to warm. Now add onion and cumin seeds in it and fry the ingredients until the ingredients change it’s to color. Add carrot, Potato, and cauliflower in it and fry for 1 to 2 minutes.
After frying the ingredients for 2 minutes, add water and cover the pressure cooker, and cook the ingredients for 5-6 whistles. This process will properly tender your ingredients. When the process gets done, add the cooked rice in it and mash the whole mixture through a food processor or by hand.
The recipe is ready to serve for more than 8 months age of the baby.
2. Cauliflower, broccoli and Cheese Recipe for babies
- 100 grams of cauliflower.
- 100 gram of broccoli.
- A ¼ cup of cheddar cheese.
- 2 tablespoons of water, and some extra water for boiling.
As you all know steaming the ingredients don’t reduce the protein and vitamins of a vegetable So, the first step starts with steaming the vegetables, and for that, we need a saucepan, a bit of water, and a steaming tray on which we put the vegetables to steam.
When you realize the ingredients gets properly steamed and becomes tender, transfer the steamed ingredients into a food processor for grinding process. Add two tablespoons of water and cheddar cheese, and grind the ingredients until it gives you a smooth texture.
Pour the baby bowl with this recipe, and serve this to your baby as the recipe is ready.
3. Cauliflower and Potato Puree recipe for babies
- 20 Florets of Cauliflower (According to your need).
- Hot Water 1 cup.
- 1 Normal Size Chopped Potato.
- Cumin Powder.
- Normal Water 1 cup.
The reason for adding hot water in the ingredients is to make sure the cauliflowers are safe for the children’s. So, the first step starts by adding the florets of cauliflower into a jar or another thing you prefer. Add hot water in it, and rinse the cauliflower to remove the worms from it. When you properly rinse the cauliflower, leave it in the water for 15 to 20 minutes.
After completing the first step, now wash the cauliflower further with water and add it into the pressure cooker. Add chopped potato, cumin powder, and 1 cup of normal water in it. Cover the pressure cooker, and cook the ingredients for 2 whistles.
Note: You can also cook the ingredients into a frying pan for around 15 minutes.
When the ingredients become properly tender, transfer it into a blender, but the ingredients need to be a bit cool down. Blend the ingredients until it gives you a smooth puree texture, and serve it to your children. This recipe is preferable for 8 months old baby.
4. Cauliflower and Broccoli Nuggets recipe for babies
- 400 grams of broccoli and Cauliflower (200-gram broccoli and 200 g cauliflower).
- 2 tablespoons of thyme or Italian seasoning.
- 2 eggs.
- 100 grams of grated cheddar cheese.
- 25 grams of breadcrumbs or milled porridge oats.
The first step always starts by tendering the solid ingredients, and for that, the best method is to steam it. You can add water into a saucepan, put the steam tray on it, and add the ingredients, and cover it. Now leave the ingredients for proper steaming and when the ingredients get tender, turn off the flame.
After completing the first step, transfer the steamed vegetables into a food processor and grind it until it gives you proper texture. Dish out the ingredient into a bowl, add cheddar cheese, bread crumbs, Italian seasoning, and eggs into it. Mix the ingredients properly, and in last mashed it again with your hands.
When the mixture gets ready, make a shape of nuggets through your hands and place it one by one on an oven tray, and bake it for 10 to 15 minutes on each side, and your baby food recipe is ready to serve.
Note: This recipe is good for more than 7 months age of babies.
5. Carrot and Cauliflower Puree recipe for babies
- Normal Size Carrot (Half).
- Cauliflower Florets (According to your needs).
- A small Storage Container.
First of all, cut the carrot and cauliflower florets into small pieces, take a saucepan, add water and the chopped vegetables in it and leave it for 7 to 10 minutes to properly boil the ingredients. Transfer the ingredients in a food processor and add a bit of boiled water in it. Grind the ingredients until it gives you a proper puree texture.
Dish out the food in a small storage container, and serve it to your baby.
Note: You can store this puree for at least 2 to 3 days after that make this recipe again if you want to feed it.
6. Cauliflower Soufflé Recipe For babies
- 7 Cauliflower Florets.
- 1 Celery Stalk.
- 1 Spring Onion.
- 2 Garlic Cloves.
- 200-gram high-fat Yoghurt / Sour Cream.
- 8 Quail Eggs/2 Chicken Eggs.
- ½ Tablespoon white flour.
- ½ Teaspoon Grated nutmeg.
- A pinch of salt.
- 20-gram grated cheddar cheese.
First of all tender the cauliflower florets by boiling it into the water, and for that, you need to take a saucepan and pour it with water, and add a pinch of salt as well. Let the cauliflower boils properly for at least 10 to 15 minutes.
After completing this process, take a normal size bowl, add quail eggs, 200 grams high-fat yogurt, and whisk it properly. Now add chopped garlic cloves, green onion, celery stalk, Fresh Mozzarella, Grated nutmeg, a pinch of salt, and ½ tablespoon white floor. Now, whisk the ingredients properly.
On the other hand, sliced the cauliflower with your hands or use a food processor to make it swallowable for your baby. When all of the processes get done, take a baking tray, and smear it with the butter. Add the chopped cauliflower, and pour it with the remaining ingredients. Now top the ingredient with 20-grams grated cheddar cheese, and bake it for 40-45 minutes on 180 temperature. The food is ready to serve.
7. Cauliflower Rice Ball Recipe for babies
- Cauliflower ½ Cup.
- Cooked Quinoa 1 cup.
- Cooked Sushi Rice 1 Cup.
- Avocado 1.
The first step of this recipe starts by grating a ½ cup of cauliflower. Now take a saucepan and fill it with water, and add the grated cauliflower for boiling. When the cauliflower gets ready, pour it in a bowl along with other ingredients, and mash them with your hand by using a spoon or you can also use a food processor for completing the task quickly. The food is ready to serve.
8. Chickpeas and Cauliflower Soup recipe for Babies
- Soaked Chickpeas.
- Garlic cloves and Rosemary (Raw and covered in a cheesecloth).
First of all, take a saucepan and pour it with water, now add cauliflower, onions, celery, carrots, tomato, garlic cloves and rosemary that needs to be covered in a cheesecloth. The reason for adding the raw garlic cloves and rosemary in the cheesecloth is to provide a favorable and organic taste to your babies.
After completing the first step, boil the ingredients on a normal flame for at least 20 minutes. Now add the soaked chickpeas into the ingredients and use the immersion blender to make the texture of the ingredients smooth like a soup. The recipe is ready to serve and is good for more than 9 months age of babies.
Note: You can use any type of chickpeas in your recipe, and the reason for not mentioning the number of ingredients is to give the authority to add the ingredients according to your own need.
9. Cheese and Cauliflower Bites recipe for Babies
- 500 Gram Roughly Chopped Cauliflower.
- 1 Large egg.
- 250/ 2 ½ cup of mild grated cheddar cheese.
- 1 tablespoon of grated parmesan cheese.
- Mixed Herbs ½ teaspoon.
- Minced Garlic 1 teaspoon.
First of all, chop the cauliflower into a rough size, add it into a grinder, and grind it until it gives you a rice texture. Now take a bowl, add 1 big size egg, and whisk it all. Take another bowl, add all the ingredients into it, and mix it well.
After completing this process, take a muffin case and pour it with the ingredient. Preheat the oven to 190 temperature and bake the ingredient for at least 45 minutes. The recipe is ready to serve.
10. Roasted Cauliflower Cheese puree recipe for babies
- 1 tablespoon Coconut Oil.
- 1 small cauliflower (cut into small florets).
- 50-gram cheddar cheese.
- 1 small garlic clove (Peeled).
- 2 tablespoon Parmesan.
- 1 tablespoon double cream.
- 20 ml of whole milk.
The first step starts by cutting the cauliflower into small florets. Place the cauliflower and garlic into a baking tray with a spoon full of coconut oil. Bake the ingredients at a preheated 200c oven for at least 20 minutes.
After completing the first step, now transfer the ingredient into a food processor. Add the milk, cheese, and cream, and grind it until the mixtures give you a smooth texture. The food is ready to serve.
11. Cauliflower, Apple and rice puree recipe for babies
- 3 Tablespoons rice.
- 1 Apple (peel and cut).
- A handful of Chopped Cauliflower.
The first step starts by washing all the ingredients thoroughly. Take a saucepan, add 3 cups of water, apple, cauliflower, and rice into it. Boil the mixture for around 15 minutes, and use a spoon to make sure that the rice is not sticking at the bottom of the saucepan. Cook until all the ingredients get properly tender.
After completing the first process, use the immense blender to make the ingredients into a smooth texture or liquid puree. Pour the food into a baby feeding bowl, and the food is ready to serve.
Note: You can store the food for only two days in a refrigerator.
12. Cauliflower, Beef and Plum Puree recipe for Babies
- Sliced Plum.
- Minced Beef.
- Chopped Cauliflower.
First of all, take a saucepan, pour it with water, take a steamer tray, and add all the ingredients into it. Cover the saucepan and steam it until all the ingredients get tender. After completing the first process, transfer the ingredients into a food processor and grind it until it gives you a desirable texture.
The recipe is ready to serve, and it’s the best recipe to introduce puree to your babies as the sweetness of plum will make this food the best for your baby.
13. Cauliflower, Broccoli, potatoes and chicken Recipe for Babies
- Normal size chopped Potato.
- 3 to 4 normal pieces of Broccoli.
- 3 to 4 florets of Cauliflower.
- 1 small piece of Chicken.
First of all, take a saucepan to pour it with water, add the potato and chicken into it. Take a steamer tray and put it on to the saucepan, add broccoli and cauliflower in it. Cover the saucepan, and cook the ingredients for 25 minutes so all the vegetables get properly tender, and the chicken boiled well.
After completing the first step, transfer the ingredients into a bowl. Add the vegetable broth and oil into the ingredient, and use an immense blender to make the ingredient into a puree form. The food is ready to serve.
